Talks.
I currently provide talks to local Groups, Clubs and Societies in the Wessex Region, on a number of subjects, including the Slingsbys, and Somerset during the English Civil War.
This years main subject is " Lord Nelson and the Ladies in his life".
The talk explores the relationship between Nelson, his wife Francis, the Hamiltons and the conflicts with his Naval Career. In particular it looks his affair with Emma, Lady Hamilton, contrasting her and Lady Nelson and his behavior at Naples during the Jacobin Revolution. The story that is seldom told.
"Somerset during the English Civil War 1642 - 1645"
When the story of the Civil War is told it normally focus' on the conflict between King Charles and Parliament and the involvement of the Scots culminating in Battles such as Marston Moor and Naesby. However in Wessex the battle between the opposing sides didn't just involve two opposing armies but the entire population. It was in the very towns and villages we live in that the ordinary people, abused by the troops from both sides rose up in revolt.
"Mallorca re-discovered"
With a name synonymous with Clubs, English Pubs, Fish and Chips and the whole 70's package holiday "thing" Mallorca doesn't spring to mind as a place to go if you want a quiet and restful holiday interspersed with visits to interesting sites and magnificent scenery. Think again!
